B.Sc. Thesis: Study of Mechanical Property of Human Hair by a Newly Developed Micro-Fiber Measuring Setup
Supervisor: Dr. Md. Abdus Salam Akanda, Professor, Mechanical Engineering, BUET.
This experiment reports on a small-scale bending method for human hair for developing a cheap, reliable and easy human identification method . The test sample, which is circular in cross-section is formed as a cantilever with a customized setup. From these tests, load–displacement relationships for the hair were obtained. From the experimental data and analysis, we found that the determined structural elasticity is independent of the radius of the hair, and precise measurements of the structural elasticity of human hair. Finally it is shown that when the data is processed in normalized form, different curves are found for different hair samples of different people.
