International Education Workshop Series

How many students can participate in the workshop series?

The goal is for a total of 26 students, two students from each of Ohio’s state universities.

Who should apply for the program?

The goal of this program is to introduce students, who have no international experience, to the field of international education.  Recognizing that there is little diversity in the field, the preference is for underrepresented students to participate.

When is the application deadline?

September 30, 2025

What happens if more than two students from a university apply to the program?

In the case that more than two students apply to the program, the OIC representative from that university will be asked to select two students with a preference towards underrepresented students (first generation, veterans, racial and ethnic minorities, students with disabilities).

Can international students participate?

International students and students who have studied abroad or hold a U.S. passport will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

How will the workshops be taught?

All workshops will be held virtually.

How will students complete the job shadowing/mentoring experience?

Students are expected to have a total of four job shadowing experiences that correspond with each workshop session. Students
will be matched with staff from their university’s international office and be expected to complete between 1-2 hours of mentoring
for each workshop session for a total of 4-8 hours of shadowing. Whether the mentoring is virtual, or in-person will be the
discretion of that school’s OIC representative.

What are the requirements to complete the program and earn the reimbursement for the passport?

Students must attend all four workshop sessions, complete between 4-8 hours of mentoring, and attend one OIC meeting. The
students may attend any OIC meeting that is scheduled throughout the year, either virtually, or in person. Students may select
from the official semester meetings or the monthly update meetings.

What happens if a student misses a workshop, can’t complete the mentoring, or attend the OIC meeting?
We will do our best to accommodate students and be flexible throughout the program. If a student misses a workshop and they
are a Wednesday workshop attendee, they can attend the Saturday workshop. If they are a Saturday workshop attendee, they can
make the workshop up the following academic year. Similarly, if a student needs more time to complete the mentoring or OIC
meeting attendance, we will work with that student on a case-by-case basis to complete the requirements.

What is the process for getting reimbursed for the passport fee?

Students must initiate the passport process, including paying for the fee. They will need to submit a receipt for their paid fee and
will be reimbursed by the Ohio International Consortium. Specific details will be provided in the workshop.
