Welcome to the Oak Harbor Sail Fleet Crew Page
Racing is scheduled every Thursday night from mid March through late September and consist of four race series with each series being between 4 - 8 weeks long. Each race crew tries to win the series by tallying up the lowest point totals for that series.
Experience is not necessary to join a crew, only the willingness to learn and to help each crew maximize their efforts through friendly competition. To have a chance to join a race team, you should have an understanding that there are risks to being on the water where accidents can happen. Every Skipper's number one priority is safety for the crew and others on the water, therefore adherence to instruction is a must.
To help facilitate being matched up with a race team, try to come prepared with a life jacket (one may be provided if you don't have one), wear closed toe shoes (non marking), and dress for the weather conditions (wear layers).
How Do I Sign Up?
Two ways. Check the reader board each Thursday at the head of the Marina Dock. Skippers will leave their boat name, slip number and number of spots available. You can also contact the Sail Fleet Captain at firstname.lastname@example.org
What Time Do I Need To Be There?
Boats will need to leave the dock by 5:00 pm. Make arrangements prior to departure.
How Long Do The Races Last?
You need to plan on being on the water from 5:00 pm until about 8:30 pm (+/- 30 min). After racing, all participants are invited to come up to the Yacht Club for burgers, spirits and race recap. (Buy spirits and burgers at the bar. Race stories are free.)
Does It Cost Anything To Participate?
No. Just come and enjoy yourself. If you join a crew on a regular basis, please communicate with your skipper your availability for the series.
