Oregon Health & Science University’s Department of Emergency Medicine is committed to recruiting
resilient and diverse student rotators. We recognize the maturity, resiliency, and unique perspectives
that students who have experienced significant adversity can bring to a program, and we want to
facilitate those students completing visiting student rotations with us. We are therefore pleased to
offer the OHSU Emergency Medicine Adversity Scholarship, which is a $1500 scholarship that will be
offered to qualified students who are planning to pursue emergency medicine as a career and who have
experienced significant adversity in their lives. This scholarship is intended to offset costs of travel and
lodging during an EM visiting student sub-internship at OHSU.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Students must be planning to apply into an emergency medicine residency
Students must identify as persons who have experienced significant disadvantage or adversity (i.e., a first generation college graduate; a recipient of social service resources while in elementary or secondary school, enhanced education or other programs for diverse populations; or by experience of economic, cultural, educational or family adversity)
Students should only apply for the scholarship if the expense of travel and lodging without the scholarship would cause economic hardship for the student
Students must meet OHSU’s visiting student requirements: https://www.ohsu.edu/school-of-medicine/md-program/visiting-students
Students must submit a complete visiting student application through VSLO
