Parent and Student Understanding
The entire directorial team works hard to make sure our musical theatre program is enjoyed by anyone willing to work with us and will be a positive addition to our program. This does not mean that everyone will be given a role in a show. If not selected for a show, a student may still participate by being a part of our busy tech crew. However, please understand that their is no inherent "right" to be a part of this Extra-Curricular Activity.
We do NOT discuss casting decisions with parents. If a student would like feedback on their audition, we are more than happy to discuss with the STUDENT, but never the parent.
Please be sure you read our Student/Parent Agreement at the bottom of this web page for a basic understanding of the requirements for being a part of this after school activity.
Synopsis
Based on the hit film and the incredible true story, Catch Me If You Can is the high-flying musical comedy about chasing your dreams and not getting caught. Nominated for four Tony awards, including Best Musical, this delightfully entertaining show was created by a Tony Award-winning "dream team," with a book by Terrence McNally (Ragtime) and a swinging score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray).
Seeking fame and fortune, precocious teenager, Frank Abagnale, Jr., runs away from home to begin an unforgettable adventure. With nothing more than his boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer – living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. When Frank's lies catch the attention of FBI agent, Carl Hanratty, though, Carl pursues Frank across the country to make him pay for his crimes.
We are looking to cast approximately 30-40 actors/singers/dancers. Since this show is based on a true story, it is very complex, and character driven. Dancers (male and female) plus ensemble are crucial to the overall fun and excitement the show creates. This is a period piece (1960s) so the look and feel of the show along with the dance numbers will be reflective of the times.
Like the film the musical is based on, this musical would most likely be rated PG-13 for some adult content and brief language. As always, the directorial team will work hard to make sure the show maintains appropriateness for high school performers while maintaining the artistic vision of the writers of the show.
Cost
If selected to be a member of the cast, there is a required participation fee of $110. This fee covers your script rental, unique character costuming rentals, special makeup, any wigs and extensions.
This participation fee DOES NOT cover personal items like character shoes, tights, basic costuming needs, standard stage makeup, and other items that can not be shared with other students.
All girls will be required to use tan character shoes.
All students selected for the show must pay the $110 fee via School Cash Online (no cash or checks will be accepted) by June 17 at 11:00pm.
Show Dates
Catch Me If You Can will be presented on Thursday, December 17; Friday, December 18, and Saturday, December 19. We will do a total of four performances. Obviously, a student MUST be present for all performances!
General Rehearsal Schedule
In general, our rehearsals will run after-school from 2:45 – 4:30, Monday through Friday. There will be dance rehearsals on Saturday mornings (9 until noon) for dance instruction beginning in August! We will have a more specific schedule available by August.
We take attendance at every rehearsal. If the production team feels you have missed too many rehearsals because of sickness or missed rehearsals, you will be cut from the show. This is solely at the discretion of the production team!
Grades and Eligibility
As a reminder, students must be eligible (according to FCPS regulations) to remain a member of our cast. You will be dismissed from the group if you are not eligible!
