The mission of the Marching Band is to provide young adults an activity that instills; pride, teamwork, motivation, leadership, self-esteem, values and respect while recognizing the individuality in talents and contributions of all members Every Oswego Buccaneer member is regarded as a key player in a highly respected musical unit, reflecting a credit upon the entire organization and school which it represents.
The Marching Band Program has been developed to provide the students in the curricular performance ensembles an extra-curricular opportunity to advance their musicianship skills outside of the school day. The primary purpose of the marching band is to help build the performance skills that are necessary for success in our curricular day program.
The Marching Band is an auditioned ensemble that is open to all instrumental students (grades 7-12). Students must be enrolled in an ensemble (band, chorus, and orchestra) for the entire the school year of the competition season. The Director of the Marching Band controls the personnel and instrumentation of the ensemble. All perspective members should plan on performing on their primary band instrument. The audition process for all prospective members is during the Parade Rehearsals. Academic achievement, school attendance, and behavior during the school year will be taken into account during the audition process.
The Color Guard functions as one of the most important visual elements of the marching band program. The color guard is also an auditioned section of the marching band that is open to all students in grades 7-12. Academic achievement, school attendance, and behavior while at school will be taken into account during the audition process.
