Our Holy Redeemer’s is more than a building.
It is a survivor of the Clydebank Blitz and the Mother Church of Catholic Clydebank, holding deep meaning for generations of families. It has been standing for over a hundred years and it's connections run deep and far.
This site has been created as a community-led space to share a constructive proposal for the future of Our Holy Redeemer’s. It brings together parishioners and local residents who wish to work collaboratively and transparently with the Archdiocese to explore a time-limited period of renewal and sustainability.
Our aim is simple: to demonstrate that Our Holy Redeemer’s can remain a living parish church, supported by lay leadership, responsible stewardship, and renewed parish life.
Why Our Holy Redeemer’s Has a Future
Active Worshipping Community: Regular Sunday attendance with significantly higher numbers at major feasts and parish occasions.
Strong Community Support: Over 600 people have signed a petition calling for transparency, consultation, and a pause in irreversible decisions.
Historic and Cultural Significance: A Category B listed church and a rare survivor of the Clydebank Blitz.
Manageable Fabric Needs: Despite long periods of under-investment, issues have emerged only recently, indicating maintenance challenges rather than terminal structural failure.
Willingness to Support Renewal: Many parishioners and community members have expressed a readiness to contribute time, skills, and resources if given a fair opportunity.
Long-Term Underinvestment, Not Sudden Failure: For several decades, Our Holy Redeemer’s did not receive consistent or systematic maintenance. As a result, issues have emerged in recent years that reflect deferred upkeep rather than structural collapse.
Strong Community Willingness to Act: Parishioners and members of the wider community have been clear that they wish to see these issues addressed responsibly and are willing to support proportionate repairs if given the opportunity.
