OCEAN RESCUE LIFEGUARD

If you are interested in working for the town of Ogunquit contact them directly for instructions

The Lifeguard service is now under the control of a first year Fire Chief Russell Osgood. He took the Lifeguard Captain position from a 20 year veteran in order to make more money for himself. He lied to him 3 weeks before it happened on June 4th, telling him in his office that the town had told him during his interview it had no interest in combining the Fire Department and Lifeguard Department under his control. Turns out he was told the exact opposite during his interview 7 months earlier. He lied again as it happened, saying on June 29th that he wasn't getting paid any extra to take over. Turns out he quickly got a raise, and stands to see a 21.2% pay raise in 2022 or ~$20,000. Meanwhile, all lifeguards other than the highly paid lieutenants ($24/hour) will see NO increase in pay in 2022. Starting pay will be decreasing to $17/hour.

This began when the interim town manager with backing from several select board members took political and personal revenge by removing the lifeguard captain without cause and banishing 15 other veteran lifeguards who protested the move. They made this move after the former Captain had tried to increase pay rates using an approved budget. They also wanted to shut down the ability of the former captain to discuss the town's immoral and illegal use of parking lot revenue to 'make money' instead of providing services.

Despite it being the rainiest and calmest summer in at least 18 years, several serious incidents occurred including a near drowning. The new Lifeguard Captain did not help when the squad was short staffed leaving several key beaches unguarded. He also stopped our September beach coverage program despite the fact that the town is charging people to park after Labor Day.

If you decide to work for this place, take care of yourself and don't do them any favors. Seasonal employees are pons in a monopoly game for those in power. Congratulations on cashing in Chief Osgood. Maybe next time you can try being honest with a staff you plan to take over.
