Janel Hemmings, M.Ed., OG-T, WDP, (CERI)

With over 25 years of experience as a teacher and literacy coach in NYC, Janel is an Orton Gillingham Tutor certified at the Advanced Level through the Graduate Center for Dyslexia Studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University (IMSLEC). She also has the Wilson Language Training (WLT) credential, to make evidence based reading instruction accessible to underserved communities. She has learned from renown authors in the science of reading, and is very dedicated to changing the life trajectory of struggling readers.

The Orton Gillingham approach  is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia.  It is most understood and practiced as an approach, and when a well-trained and experienced instructor implements OG, it is a powerful tool for changing lives.
