Artists are allowed to submit two (2) separate art pieces for claims (but submitting a single piece is also perfectly fine!). These two pieces can each represent a different story idea.
Collaborate with your author - tell them what you like and don't like, read the work in progress bits that they share, and share progress on the art - this is a collaboration

Yes! As an artist, you don't need to have an AO3 account. Your art still needs to be linked in the AO3 post, but you have a few options when posting:
Your writer posts the art inline
Your writer links to the art, which you post on an external site
Both of the above
If you do have an AO3 account, you're also welcome to post the art on your own account and then link to the fic.

Our rule is 50% completed by the submission due date. How this looks to each artist is different, so we are trusting your judgement.

No matter what you make, your art must be able to be shared digitally. This includes:
traditional art
physical art (needlework, sculpting, etc)
digital art
comics

images created by AI

Gladly! Both of these are when you take a picture or still from the show and manipulate it somehow. While these are cool, we are not considering them for this bang. If you look at our example slide below, the image example is not technically allowed as the car itself is an image even though Izzy is hand-drawn. (We just use it as an example because it makes us laugh.)

Music (both with vocal and instrumental-only), soundscapes, and other auditory art may be acceptable if suitably detailed, but require discussion with a mod. Overall, we would ask that auditory pieces be at least one minute in length prior to claims, and that the art slide details the vision you have for you writer's interpretation of the piece. Please reach out to us to discuss if you're interested in submitting auditory art!
What about a playlist?

Due to increased interest, we’ve updated these guidelines as of January 6th, 2026. Playlists are a tricky subject and if you would like to submit one, there will be some strict rules you will need to follow. And, as with other music/auditory art, require discussion with a mod to ensure suitability for this event.
The slide you submit for claims must include:
an album cover (or the beginning of one)
no more than three different songs that would be on the playlist
a story prompt – not just general vibes
Remember that the purpose of the claims slide is to inspire a writer to collaborate with you – it’s the start of a conversation. Your medium of choice is curation, so it’s key that your slide kicks that off clearly but briefly. Even if you’ve created a lengthy playlist as part of the process, we strongly encourage you to include only a representative sample of three tracks to gives potential collaborators a strong sense of the story you’re hoping to tell. The level of collaboration and how the playlist is used in the story is entirely up to the two of you.
For the cover art component of a playlist, you're exempt from the "no photo manipulation" rule – we understand that some artists work in music rather than pencil. Cover images must, however, be your own creation and not a copy of existing art.
Your final posting should contain these things:
a finished playlist on the website of your choice
check whether or not the site allows international users to listen to the playlist before committing to a site (tunemymusic.com may be helpful in copying a final playlist to different sites for maximum access)
a full album cover (including the list of songs on the "back cover")
a minimum of 10 songs

We ask that artists do not submit artwork that has been previously published online. The RBB is designed to be a challenge for artists to create unique art as story prompts for writers. If you have a question about whether art you've previously published will be accepted, please contact the mods.

Yes! You can share works in progress after claims have passed (on or after March 22nd) as long as it is not the full, complete piece. Feel free to share WIPs on social media or in Discord servers/chats. Please do not share any of your writer's work publicly without their permission. Please tag us on Bluesky and/or Tumblr and use the hashtag #OFMDReverseBang when sharing WIPs!

Absolutely! Many participants have done that in the past. However, making more artwork is not a requirement.

To participate, you must create a slide for authors to claim. This is done in Google Slides - you'll receive a template when the time draws near.
A few tips on creating a slide:
Read the page about collaboration levels carefully before committing - this will define how much influence you and your partner will have on each others' work
Be specific about what you're interested in and what you don't want - do you want fluff? A specific story twist? Don't want smut? Put it on the slide.
Writers are often drawn to prompts with a hook rather than a perfectly finished art piece - put some thought into a story prompt that might make ideas flow for a writer.
Be clear about what you're flexible on and what you're not - this is not a commission, but it's fine to have some sticking points.
