If you want a streamlined, single-device solution that prioritizes ease of use and a clean look for your 2012-2015 Toyota Tacoma, choose Offroam Phone Mount Made; if you need a rugged, modular command center capable of holding multiple heavy devices on a 2016-2023 Tacoma, choose Bulletpoint RubiGrid Metal Dash.
• Offroam Phone Mount Made: Its greatest strength is the precision-machined aluminum build designed specifically for older Tacomas with a simple one-handed spring-loaded mechanism, but it is limited to mounting just one phone and requires a model year between 2012 and 2015.
• Bulletpoint RubiGrid Metal Dash: This system offers unmatched versatility with a laser-cut metal grid that accommodates phones, tablets, and CB radios simultaneously, yet it comes in at nearly four times the weight and targets newer truck models from 2016 to 2023.
• Who should buy the Offroam?: Drivers who value a minimalist aesthetic, need quick one-hand access, and drive a pre-2016 Tacoma without wanting to clutter their dashboard.
• Who should buy the RubiGrid?: Overlanders and back seat passengers who need to mount multiple gadgets securely on bumpy trails and own a 2016 or newer Tacoma.
The Offroam Phone Mount Made is engineered with a singular focus: providing a stable, unobtrusive home for a single smartphone on the dash of a 2012 through 2015 Toyota Tacoma. The design philosophy here is clearly rooted in simplicity and functionality. By utilizing a CNC-machined aluminum body with a black anodized finish, the manufacturer has created a unit that feels substantial without being bulky.
What stands out most about this mount is the operational mechanics. The spring-loaded holder allows for smooth, effortless insertion and removal of your device using just one hand. This is not a minor convenience; it is a critical safety feature for drivers who need to grab their navigation or music controls while moving. The arm swivels a full 360 degrees, meaning you can adjust the viewing angle to match the sun's position or your seating posture without fighting the mount's tension. It fits all phones with cases up to 0.67 inches deep, covering the vast majority of modern smartphones whether they are held in portrait or landscape mode.
This product is ideal for the driver who wants a "set it and forget it" experience. Because it is specially engineered for the specific contours of the 2012-2015 dashboard, it places the phone in an optimal spot that does not obstruct airflow, controls, or your forward view. The stainless steel hardware ensures durability even in extreme temperatures, which is essential for trucks used in various climates. However, if you drive a 2016 or newer Tacoma, or if you plan to mount anything other than a standard smartphone—like a tablet or a GPS unit—this mount simply will not fit your needs. It is a dedicated tool for a dedicated job, and it executes that job with precision.

In stark contrast to the minimalist approach of the Offroam, the Bulletpoint RubiGrid Metal Dash is built as a comprehensive mounting platform rather than a simple holder. Designed exclusively for the 2016 through 2023 Toyota Tacoma, this system replaces the traditional fixed mount with a laser-cut metal grid positioned centrally above the radio. The intent here is to create a customizable command center where you can arrange your gear exactly where you want it. The description emphasizes its ability to hold more than just phones; it supports tablets, iPads, action cameras, and even CB radios, making it a true hub for communication and entertainment.
The sheer scale of this system is evident in its specifications. This mass contributes to what the data describes as a "rock solid system." When tightened down, the RubiGrid is designed to stay put even on really bumpy roads or during intense off-roading on favorite trails. The flexibility is its primary selling point; because the grid allows you to move devices along the metal surface, you can change your setup whenever you want. Whether you swap a phone for a camera or add a second device, the platform adapts instantly without requiring new tools or drilling.
This mount is the clear choice for the serious off-road enthusiast or the family looking to equip the vehicle for long trips. The central placement ensures visibility, but the real draw is the capacity to manage multiple devices simultaneously. If you are traveling with back seat passengers who need their own screens, or if you rely on a CB radio for trail communication, the RubiGrid provides the structural support those devices require. It is not a quick-grab solution for a single commuter; it is a permanent fixture for a rig that sees serious action. While the weight and complexity might be overkill for a daily grocery run, they are essential features for anyone pushing their Tacoma beyond paved roads.
• Best for Older Models → Choose the Offroam Phone Mount Made if your Tacoma was manufactured between 2012 and 2015; the RubiGrid is incompatible with these years.
• Best for Multiple Devices → Choose the Bulletpoint RubiGrid Metal Dash if you need to mount phones, tablets, and radios together; the Offroam is strictly single-device.
• Best for One-Handed Speed → Choose the Offroam Phone Mount Made for its spring-loaded mechanism that lets you snap a phone in and out instantly.
• Best for Rough Terrain Stability → Choose the Bulletpoint RubiGrid Metal Dash due to its heavy-duty construction and secure locking on the metal grid for bumpy trails.
• Best for Custom Layouts → Choose the Bulletpoint RubiGrid Metal Dash if you want to rearrange your devices frequently or expand your setup later.
• Best for Clean Aesthetics → Choose the Offroam Phone Mount Made for a sleek, integrated look that doesn't dominate the dashboard space.
• Best for Back Seat Passengers → Choose the Bulletpoint RubiGrid Metal Dash because its modular grid allows you to position screens or devices where rear occupants can easily reach them.
After weighing the specifications and intended use cases, I would personally buy the Bulletpoint RubiGrid Metal Dash for any truck owner planning to take their vehicle off-road or carry multiple electronic devices. The ability to customize the layout and the sheer stability of the heavy-duty metal grid make it superior for the demanding conditions that Tacoma owners often seek. However, if you drive an older model year or prefer a simple, lightweight setup for a single phone, the Offroam remains a highly competent tool. For back seat passengers specifically, the RubiGrid wins hands down because its flexible platform allows you to place devices within easy reach of everyone in the cab, turning the dashboard into a true shared workspace.
No, the RubiGrid is specifically engineered for 2016 through 2023 Toyota Tacoma models and will not fit earlier versions like the 2014.
The Offroam Phone Mount Made is designed to accommodate cases up to 0.67 inches deep, so it handles most standard protective cases but may struggle with oversized, ultra-heavy duty armor cases.
No, the Offroam is a universal spring-loaded holder intended only for smartphones; the Bulletpoint RubiGrid is the only option listed that explicitly supports mounting CB radios and larger tablets.
Both mounts claim to require no drilling or permanent modification, so neither should damage the dashboard structure, though the heavier RubiGrid relies on its mass and tight fit to resist vibration on rough terrain.
