I can guarantee many of you reading this skipped to this page.
Marine Corps OCS is physically demanding. Many get sent home for injuries or failing PT events. This doesn't have to be you! In my OCS guide, I go over the physical fitness events in greater detail. In this page, I'm going to go over what you need to do to get selected. However, I strongly suggest you check out the physical fitness section on my OCS Guide. There are several drop-down pages.
The Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is made up of Pull-ups/Push-ups, Plank, and a 3 mile run. Crunches have been phased out. In each category, you can score 100 points. Officer candidates need at least 60 points in each category.
A 1st Class PFT score is 235 or above. Never get below this score.
You may hear that you need a 280 or above. You know what's weird? You can contract with a 220. However, you will NOT be competitive, and if you get a 220 at OCS, you will get sent home. I contracted with a 228. I shipped with a 260. Don't be me. I struggled with physical fitness at OCS.
In the fleet, if an officer gets below a 235, they are known as a "shit-bag." Honest to god. I think officers should shoot for over a 250 minimum. Obviously higher, but don't be the officer that scrapes by.
Some years are more competitive than others. Some boards have more applications. So yes, you can try your luck with a 235, but physical fitness can be improved with effort.
Here is the page with the scoring charts.
It is NOT updated with planks. I promise I'll find the plank chart.
I'll go into more detail about the events in the next pages.
