You refer to the genie. This could be one of several things, the browser interface, a Windows or Mac program for a PC, or a mobile Android/iThing app. Netgear labels them all as genies. Which are you using?

I'm having the same problem. I just purchased a new Dell Inspiration 7000 4k video and the genie screen is so small. Can't figure out how to expand or make larger and it's too small to read. Any suggestions on making larger?

The genie is a valuable addition to the toolkit that does things that are more complicated, or even impossible, with the browser graphical user interface (GUI). (Try creating a "map" of your powerline devices in the GUI.) It is a shame that Netgear tries to force us all to use its hopeless mobile apps.

EDIT: I realize my included picture shows as the netgear genie not loading, I screenshot it while working on something so that's not my issue. I just wanted to clarify I am indeed able to access that page normally before you read this post.

I had an incredibly difficult time adjusting my modem/router settings, with my connected router settings, to be able to have open NAT type playing Xbox. After hours of work I managed to somehow make it work. I unfortunately had to do a hard reset on my netgear router and am sqaure one. The issue I'm having, and couldnt find within the help network, is when I access the netgear genie, it allows me to adjust certain settings, but not all of them. I've included photos for reference, and these are settings I used to be able to access. I'm using the WNR2005v5 router. What do I need to do to be able to access these?

Also for reference, I'm currently connected to the netgear router via wifi, and don't have an ethernet port, but specificall bought a usb to ethernet adapter to see if that would help the issue. It did not. My ISP is mediacom, and they have very limited acess to router settings, which is why I purchased the netgear in the first place. It is all so frustrating, I just want to play a video game with my cousin who lives states away, and because of my ISP's lack of help I've spent literally about 24 hours total in fixing this issue. Hopefully the friendly netgear community can guide me.

Uninstall genie from your laptop / desktop. Then launch a browser and connect to the IP address of the router. Genie is part of the router Web-UI. The imprtant part is not running it on a laptop / desktop..

So I'll try again, I have Windows 8.1 and I want to use only my NetGear A6100 NIC to handle the wireless in Windows, so can I disable the WLAN service that comes with Windows 8.1 and just use the Genie version of the drivers/firmware I downloaded from netgear.com or do I need both the Windows WLAN service to be turned on plus have the Genie in order to properly use my NetGear NIC?

I was informed, last night by email, by a rude Netgear CS rep, that "Since [my] device is not a retail product, the NETGEAR genie will not work on your router." I rent my router from Charter (brand new router; brand new ISP) because I didn't want to buy a Netgear router until I checked it out. I've heard too many horror stories about unreliability and bad customer service. I'm really not happy with Netgear for not allowing the Netgear Genie app to work with rented products. If this is actually true, and I cannot get Genie to work with my router, then I definitely won't be purchasing any Netgear product in the future. This is just bad practice for customer satisfaction. It is a real inconvenience (and sometimes an impossibility) for me to have to use a computer and web browser to log onto the routerlogin.net site to do any administration of my device.

Im also having a simular issue w/my router. I cant access my router at ALL. Ive changed browsers and computers (windows and mac), did a hard reset 3 times and I still cant access my router. Just the little window keep popping up asking for user and password. The wireless 2.4 and 5.0ghz is working so i can use that but no access to my router via computers or genie. What can i do?

I have a similar issue. I can login to my N300 router (WNR3500L) via routerlogin.net in browsers, but not from Netgear genie app in my windows 10 Pro PC. The error message is "Login failed. The router response timed out". I upgraded it to the latest firmware but it doesn't help. The only thing special is I set my router LAN IP address to 192.168.10.1 instead of the default one (192.168.0.1).

why isn't this included with the r6300 this is the main feature i want a router to do.

reason : if kids are not listening, or bad, or whatever I need an easy way to dissconnect their device.

is there another to accomplish this ? something that would be wife friendly as welll ?

With the dekstop genie, remember that, for some strange reason, it comes wrapped up in a RAR file. Some people are not familiar with these. You need to unpack it to get at the executable installation program.

It happened to me once, and I worked through other stuff that was running, killing things one at a time. In the end the genie stopped reporting the overload. So I put it down to a subtle interaction with something else.

I'm trying to use the Genie to check and possibly upgrade the firmware on my AC1900/A7000 WiFi USB Adapter. I have the latest version of the genie, and when I hit "check for update" it gets to 20% every time and just stops. I've let it set for an hour, and it never moves. It always stalls at 20%, have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, and issue keeps happening. I believe I have firmware in need of upgrade, but don't know how else to do it. Tech support didn't seem to understand the issue or wasn't too interested in it, so I have no alternative. Has anyone else experienced this, and how did you fix it?

Sorry, wasn't sure where to ask this question. I've tried to install netgear genie several times on my macbook. When I try to open up the installer it say the following....

"NETGEAR_Genie_Installer_2.3.1.2.pkg" is damaged and can't be opened. You should eject the disk image. Is this a installer issue or is my computer not letting me install it?

Same problem with installed Netgear genie as previous posts. Downloaded the Mac version. Install said it was successful, though it left a tmp folder open with two files in it. When tried to run Genie app it said it was damaged, and the file showed 0 bytes.

Dexter, Here is the install log from my iMac running Yosemite 10.10.5. You can see that it appears that a number of files do not exist. I don't know what the installation log should look like. But, it may be trying to update an existing Netgeargenie.app that doesn't exist, because it never installed correctrly. Anyway, pass this on to the Netgeargenie.app programmers.

Hi, I recently purchased a NETGEAR A6210 AC1200 High Gain Wireless USB Adapter, the main issue is that when I tried to install NETGEAR Software "Genie" which it suppose to like update the USB WiFi Adapter's Firmware and manange drivers update, but the main problem is it's not being detected or message says "The Netgear A6210 Adapter is not found" I have Windows 10 Pro x64 with latest updates and service packs. The wireless is working fine, but when I check the Task Manager>Performance>Wi-Fi, the wifi mode is 802.11n instead of AC, so i figured this might be a firmware issue, and i need to update my USB wifi adapter's firmware, but i can install genie, if any of you folks have solution for this or the NETGEAR community, please I need answers, or else will be return to the store.

Have the same problem, does anyone have a solution, just seemed to happen after the latest windows 10 updates. dongle works fine, but the Netgear A6210 genie will not open even though I have installed the complete .35 software not the SA version. get to the point of plug in the adaptor, get not detected evert time.

I believe I have discovered a solution to this issue, at least it has worked for me. I had the same issue with my adapter after the netgear update, the adapter quit working. There are two files, one is the Genie and the other file is the driver for the usb adapter. For reason that are unknown, the Genie won't reconize the adapter unles you install the adapter driver SEPARATLY. One would think that NETGEAR Genie would reconize the NETGEAR USB Adapter without having to reinstall the driver, but as the saying goes...that's what I get for thinking!! Smooth move there Netgear.

Thanks for your response schumaku. When I go to neatgear.com/genie, as directed on page 14 in my "router quick start manual," I'm redirected to a page that says "out with the old, in with the new," and it lists the netgear nighthawk app instead of the genie app. I installed the nighthawk app to find out that it says it does not work with my router, which seems odd since the router has nighthawk in the name. Through the app store, I located the genie app and tried that next, even though it says it will no longer be supported, which to me sounds like it won't work well, since it's not a priority.
