The new Oculus Quest 2 Virtual Reality Headset is the latest in a string of top flight virtual reality devices from the good folks at Oculus — a subsidiary of Facebook Inc. And that distinction is important because one thing you need to know is that an active Facebook account is required to use the Oculus Quest. This shouldn’t be a problem for most people, but it does bear mentioning.

Another key detail is that the Oculus Quest 2 has 256GB of total internal storage space, meaning it can hold a great quantity of VR content and adventures. And, since it’s backward compatible, you can explore your favourite existing titles as well.

In fact, the Quest content library boasts an expansive collection of both old favourites and exciting new content. You can even gain access to great Oculus Rift titles by using an Oculus Link cable. Other key specs of the kit are its lightning fast speed and amazing resolution (1832 x 1920). That’s 50% more pixels for your viewing pleasure than what the original Oculus Quest features.

Of course, the Quest 2 also offers 6 degrees of freedom and is Windows PC compatible — though no PC or other gaming console is required.

What is required to use the Oculus Quest 2 is a wireless Internet connection and the free to download Oculus App. The app is used to set up your device, and the controllers communicate with that device via Bluetooth.

The entire unit is lightweight and comfortable to wear, and the built-in speakers provide hearing in all directions thanks to cinematic 3D positional audio.

Another cool detail of this kit is its ability to display everything you’re seeing in the set either on your smart phone (via the Oculus App) or directly on your compatible TV screen. This makes the set fun for the whole family at once as everyone can watch each other’s adventures. In other words, you don’t have to be wearing the headset to enjoy its content.

The engineers at Oculus have also redesigned and enhanced the hand held touch controllers (shown below) to be more intuitive as they transport your every movement into the virtual world as smoothly and naturally as possible.
