Is Your Computer Ready?

If you're ready, it's important that your computer is ready, too! After all, in this class, your computer is your virtual classroom!

In this class, you'll need reliable computer access to interact in weekly discussions, to complete weekly lessons, and to submit your projects.

Since we have many short videos to watch and some podcasts to listen to in this class, you'll need an internet connection that will allow you to stream video.

In addition, you'll need access to a computer with audio and video capability to interact in on-line meetings through ConferZoom.

Tips and Technical Support for Online Learning Success

LMS – Canvas:

  • We will be using the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for your Online Learning Environment.

  • Please contact me immediately if you are unable to log-in for any reason: rridgway@glendale.edu

How to Log into your Class:

  • Click on Canvas Log-in – Notice the help materials that are available below the log-in sign.

      • User ID: Use your GCC Student ID number as Username;

      • Password: use your initials in caps followed by @ followed by your six-digit date of birth (mmddyy) as the password

      • For example, the password for John Smith born January 23, 1990, would be JS@012390. You will be asked to change your password the first time you log-in.

  • You should now see your class on your Canvas Dashboard for access.

Student Technical Support:

Browser Compatibility:

  • Google Chrome is strongly recommended to make sure everything works correctly in Canvas.

Set-Up Notifications:

  • I STRONGLY encourage you to set up your notification preferences if you would like to know when discussion posts are made, messages are sent to your GCC email or Announcements are posted.

Turn-On Auto-Save Text:

  • Typio Form Recovery is a Chrome extension that automatically saves text as you type and lets you easily recover input data in case of loss. You are in full control of which sites auto-save is enabled on and how long the input is saved. Typio is lightweight and secure, your data never leaves your computer.
