Textbooks

What we know about life under the waves is outweighed by what we don't know–the certainty of uncertainty. Recognizing this should be at the heart of our relationship with the ocean and the way we use the sea's resources.

Required:

You are all getting the opportunity to be guinea pigs for me this semester. I am working on getting a really good digital textbook that is going to be free to you. However, I don't have it set up yet. I will update this page once I know how the process will work.

However, below you will find 2 textbooks I have been using for class previously. You can download them both onto your device in their entirety from the links below. However, I also have each chapter individually linked within Canvas.

Introduction to Physical Oceanography, Robert Stewart, 2008 (OER in Canvas)

Introduction to Oceanography, Paul Webb (OER in Canvas)

Other options:

While you will find me referencing the textbooks above throughout the course, this is a 101 class which means you can learn this information in a variety of ways. You can read other oceanography textbooks, high quality websites or online educational sites such as Khan academy. I will provide additional resources on each module page, but find a combination that works for you personally.
