Though little data exists on pre-OSHA workplace safety, it's estimated that the number of workplace fatalities since regulations were put in place has decreased by more than 65%. That's despite dramatic increases in the country's workforce.

The goal of the Listserv is to build state-based occupational safety and health (OSH) capacity by promoting multi-state collaborations and other activities among public health departments, community partners, occupational epidemiologists, worker-related nonprofits, worker organizations, NIOSH, NIOSH-funded Centers, and academic institutions within the Midwest region

In 2015, approximately 244 million people were transnational migrants, approximately half of whom were workers, often engaged in jobs that are hazardous to their health. They work for less pay, for longer hours, and in worse conditions than do nonmigrants and are often subject to human rights violations, abuse, human trafficking, and violence. Worldwide, immigrant workers have higher rates of adverse occupational exposures and working conditions, which lead to poor health outcomes, workplace injuries, and occupational fatalities. Health disparities of immigrant workers are related to environmental and occupational exposures and are a result of language/cultural barriers, access to health care, documentation status, and the political climate of the host country. Recommendations on global and local scales are offered as potential solutions to improving the health of immigrant workers.

Wear the correct safety equipment

If you're not wearing the correct safety equipment for a task, you may get injured. Depending on the job, equipment like earplugs, earmuffs, hard hats, safety goggles, gloves or a full-face mask greatly reduce the risk of workplace injury.

The mission of the Occupational Health and Safety department at the University of Virginia Facilities Management is to support and facilitate a safe and healthful workplace for FM employees, contractors, students, faculty, staff, and visitors through an approach that emphasizes prevention through design, hazard recognition and control, training, collaboration, and outreach.

FM-OHS is proactive in our approach to health and safety. This is accomplished through effective training and education, comprehensive program development, and full employee engagement in the safety and health program. We actively work with our contractor partners and subcontractors to ensure FM personnel and all University employees, students, and visitors remain safe around construction and renovation projects that involve outside contractors and other third parties.

Workplace injuries and illness can be prevented. Information about where, how, and why working people in New York are getting sick or hurt on the job is needed to develop effective prevention strategies. Public health data can guide the development of new, safer technologies, educational activities, and regulatory and policy changes to make workplaces healthier and safe.

Occupational health and safety focuses on the causes of work-related injuries, illnesses, deaths, and the reduction of those risks. Risks can be from physical, mechanical, biological or chemical hazards in the workplace. Work-related injuries, illnesses and deaths are often preventable. Workplace safety can be improved by following health and safety guidelines.

A set of surveillance measures called occupational health indicators have been designed through a joint effort between the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). These occupational health indicators are a set of 19 measures by which states can monitor the health of their workforce. The purpose of the indicators is to allow uniform examination over time, comparison between individual states and the nation, and to highlight areas that may need additional exploration.

The coalition is a statewide, voluntary partnership of organizations and individuals committed, through community and state-level actions, to improving the surveillance, prevention, and control of occupational illness and injury in Florida.

This degree program provides a balanced approach between the theoretical concepts and applied principles of environmental health, occupational health, and safety. The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act was enacted to "assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women." The OSH Act created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) at the federal level and provided that states could run their own safety and health programs as long as those programs were at least as effective as the federal program. Federal and state safety personnel work to ensure worker safety and health through work site enforcement, education and compliance assistance, and cooperative and voluntary programs. Enforcement and administration of the OSH Act in states under federal jurisdiction is handled primarily by OSHA. Safety and health standards related to field sanitation and certain temporary labor camps in the agriculture industry are enforced by the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division (WHD) in states under federal jurisdiction. If a work site is located in a state plan state, additional safety and health requirements may apply.

At CVS Health, we are committed to the health, safety, and well-being of our colleagues, customers, contractors, vendors, and other key stakeholders. Our occupational health and safety (OHS) program is applicable to our entire operations, including employees as well as clients, contractors, suppliers, and other visitors to our facilities.

Our OHS Management system includes risk and hazard assessments to identify what could cause harm in the workplace. When needed, we establish OHS prioritization and action plans to improve health and safety efforts, reduce potential risks, and ensure strong responses to emergency situations. CVS Health uses a number of tools to identify, escalate, and address workplace hazards including: daily assessments, internal assessments and audits, external third-party audits. Hazards or compliance issues identified by any of the above will be addressed using one or more of the following: correction of unsafe or non-compliant conditions, administrative controls including signage, the development of new and revised work practices or procedures, retraining, disciplinary action, and interim controls, where appropriate. e24fc04721
