A CRY FOR RESTORATION

Have you thought about waking up in the morning only to experience nothing but darkness?

Have you thought about how you'd feel if you couldn't see your favorite team play again or watch your favorite actors on screen?

Can you imagine how your world would be if you couldn't see the love of your life, your friends or your lovely family.

Hmmm,

Personally, I always avoid thinking of these things because I cannot imagine the horror for me and my family.

Hi, my name is Unachukwu Sopulu and I am a graduate of chemical engineering and the course rep of chemical engineering class 2008/2009 at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Majority of us went to school in order to procure a better future for ourselves and our family.

But what if your future disappears into complete darkness after graduation.

Well, that was the case of my course mate and friend Obinna Okpe, a citizen of Nkporo, Amurie community in Ohafia Local Government of Abia State.

He was a very hard working and bright student in our department. A young man full of life and vigor. He participated in every class activity and was active in all.

Those days in school, I admired his commitment to knowledge and love for the truth. He was basically fending for himself, doing all manner of odd jobs just to make sure he graduated as an engineer.

Lo and behold, in 2014 he graduated not only as a chemical engineer but with a good second class upper to garnish it.

After graduation, we were so excited about going to serve our fatherland and as the NYSC call up letter rolled out, many of us would never see ourselves again up till this day.

You see, I am not here to talk about our university days or how amazing we were in school.

Far from it.

Rather, I am here to talk about a fine young man with promising talents who became completely lost without his SIGHT.

In 2015 shortly after our service year, I was informed that Obinna had suddenly become blind. The news alone gave me goosebumps and I was shaking for minutes. I was completely dumb founded not knowing what to do or what to say at that moment.

Hmmm,

Well, as a class we continuously raised money for his upkeep and medical expenses from time to time because we weren't sure of the root cause of his situation. All we knew was that he had gone blind.

But weeks turned into months and months into years - still, no solution.

As God may have it, his doctors at Memfys Hospital for neurosurgery Enugu recently identified a brain tumor as the root cause of his predicament.

Hmmm,

At last we have a solution.

But this information is both good news and bad news.

Good news in the sense that we now know the root cause of his blindness but bad news because the treatment cost is over the roof.

From estimates the total cost for the tumor removal (Surgery) will be around 6 million naira. SIX MILLION NAIRA in these difficult times.

Sincerely, as a class we definitely can't raise that kind of money and turning to his family won't help much because they have basically exhausted all they have carrying him from place to place.

When I saw a picture of my friend and course mate today, I immediately lost control of my emotions and cried profusely. Because he looked so pale and frustrated.

In fact, I deleted the picture immediately after that moment.

Brothers and Sisters please help us in raising this money. Do not let the future of this intelligent young man vanish this way.

Nothing is too small and nothing is too much. Please I beg you 🙏🙏

I wish you could tear into my heart to see the amount of pain I feel seeing this intelligent man, a guru by all standards, being catered for like an ignorant child.

I, my course mates and his family will be deeply delighted if you could spare a small amount for his treatment.
