Obento Privacy Policy

Obento is a meal planning app for saving recipes, planning meals and organising groceries.

Your content is stored on your device. When iCloud is enabled, supported content may sync through your Apple Account. If you choose to use household sharing, shared content is also available to other members of your household.

This policy explains what information Obento handles, how it is used, when it leaves your device and the choices you have.

Information Obento Handles

Obento does not require a separate account with the developer or ask you to create a personal profile.

The app may store:

• Recipes, including titles, descriptions, ingredients, instructions, servings, cooking times, tags, source URLs and images.

• Recipe collections.

• Meal plans and cooking history, including meals marked cooked or skipped.

• Grocery lists, custom grocery items and checked-off items.

• Planning preferences and app settings.

• Information needed to create, join and manage a shared household.

• Purchase information supplied by Apple to determine access to Obento Pro.

Obento uses this information to provide its features. Your saved recipe and meal-planning content is not automatically sent to the developer or included in analytics.

iCloud Sync

When iCloud is available and enabled for Obento, supported content may sync through Apple’s CloudKit service so it is available on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account.

Personal content is stored in your private iCloud database. Household content is shared through the household owner’s iCloud account and is accessible to authorised household members.

Obento does not operate a server that stores your recipes, images, meal plans or groceries. The developer does not have access to this content through Obento’s iCloud sync or household-sharing features.

Some preferences and device-specific information may remain only on the device where they were set.

Without iCloud, personal features can use locally stored content. Syncing between devices and household sharing require iCloud.

Apple processes iCloud information under its own terms and Privacy Policy.

Household Sharing

Household sharing is optional. When you create or join a household, its recipes, collections, meal plans, cooking history, planning preferences and grocery information are available to other household members.

Members with editing access can add, change and delete shared content. Changes may appear on other members’ devices.

When you join a household:

• Your personal recipes and collections are copied into the household library. Recipes already present may be kept without creating duplicates.

• Your existing personal library and planning data remain separate.

• The household’s existing meal plan, planning preferences and groceries remain in use.

• Recipes you subsequently add or import while using the household are saved to the shared library.

Apple manages invitations and participant access through CloudKit. Apple’s sharing interfaces may display participant identity information, such as a name or invitation address, to people involved in the share.

If you leave, you return to the personal library and planning data retained from before you joined. Content you contributed to the household remains with that household. Household additions and changes are not automatically copied back to your personal library.

The owner can stop sharing, which removes other members’ access while retaining the household content in the owner’s account. Removing access cannot remove copies that another member has independently saved.

Recipe Imports

When you import a recipe from a website or supported social-media link, Obento requests content directly from that website or service.

The website or service may receive your IP address and other technical information that normally accompanies an internet request. Its own privacy policy applies.

For photo imports, Obento uses on-device processing to recognise recipe text. Where supported, recipe extraction may also use Apple’s on-device models. Obento does not send recipe text or photos to a developer-operated AI service for extraction.

Imported recipes become part of your personal or household library, depending on which library is active.

Photos and Recipe Images

Obento may download recipe images directly from a website or image host. That provider may receive your IP address and request metadata.

When you select a photo through Apple’s system photo picker, Obento receives the selected image, not access to your entire photo library through that picker.

If you choose to photograph a recipe, Obento requests camera permission. Captured or selected images may be processed and stored for the recipe.

Saved recipe images may sync through iCloud. Images saved to a household recipe are available to household members.

In-App Purchases and Obento Pro

Obento offers optional paid features through Apple’s App Store, including subscriptions and a one-time purchase.

Apple processes payments. Obento and its developer do not receive your payment card details or bank account information.

Obento uses Apple’s StoreKit framework to receive and verify purchase information, including which product was purchased and whether it currently grants access to Obento Pro. The app uses this information to unlock features, restore purchases and respond to changes in purchase eligibility.

Purchase verification takes place on your device using information supplied by Apple. Obento does not send StoreKit transaction information to developer-operated servers or TelemetryDeck.

Apple may separately make sales, subscription and financial reports available to the developer through App Store Connect. These reports are separate from Obento’s optional analytics. Apple explains this reporting in its App Store & Privacy notice.

You can manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple Account’s subscription settings. Deleting Obento or deleting your app content does not cancel a subscription or erase purchase records retained by Apple.

Optional Analytics

Obento uses TelemetryDeck to understand feature usage and improve the app.

Analytics are optional. Obento asks for your permission before sending analytics events. Declining analytics does not change which free or purchased features you can access.

If you consent, analytics may include:

• Events indicating that a feature was used, such as importing a recipe or generating a plan.

• General information about how a feature was used.

• Coarse numerical ranges, such as the approximate size of a recipe library.

• Technical information such as app version, operating system, device type and language.

• A privacy-preserving identifier used to measure aggregate usage and retention.

Analytics do not include your recipe titles, ingredients, instructions, images, grocery item names, meal-plan contents, imported URLs, StoreKit transaction details, name, email address or Apple Account details.

Obento does not use analytics for advertising, cross-app tracking or data brokerage.

TelemetryDeck states that it anonymises analytics identifiers and does not store IP addresses. See TelemetryDeck’s Privacy Policy for details about its processing.

You can change your analytics choice in Obento’s settings. Turning analytics off stops future events. Obento cannot reliably associate previously submitted anonymised events with an individual, so it may not be possible to locate or delete a particular person’s past events.

Support Communications

If you contact support, the developer receives your email address, the contents of your message and any attachments you choose to send.

This information is used to respond to your request and investigate reported problems. Please include only information you are comfortable sharing and avoid sending payment details or Apple Account passwords.

Support correspondence is handled through the email services used to send and receive it.

When Information Leaves Your Device

Information may leave your device:

• Through Apple’s iCloud services when syncing or sharing household content.

• Through Apple’s StoreKit services when making or restoring purchases or checking purchase eligibility.

• When contacting websites or image hosts to import or display recipes.

• When sending optional analytics to TelemetryDeck.

• When you choose to share content through another app or contact support.

Third-party services handle information under their own privacy policies.

The developer may disclose information in its possession when required by applicable law or a valid legal request.

Obento does not sell your personal information.

Storage, Retention and Deletion

Personal content remains on your device and, where enabled, in iCloud until you delete it or remove the relevant stored data. Household content remains under the household owner’s account until it is deleted there.

Deleting synced content in Obento also removes it from the corresponding synced library as changes propagate. Deleting shared household content can therefore affect other members.

The app’s delete-all-data action applies to Obento data in your own account. It does not erase a household owned by someone else. If you own a household, deleting the data that supports it can affect everyone’s access.

Leaving a household does not delete contributions already copied into it.

Deleting the app removes its local data but does not necessarily remove iCloud content, household contributions, device backups or Apple’s purchase records. You can manage Obento’s iCloud storage through Apple’s settings.

App data may also be included in device backups according to your Apple settings. Apple controls retention of its purchase records and backups.

Support correspondence is retained as needed to address requests and meet applicable legal obligations. Information processed by Apple and TelemetryDeck is subject to their respective retention practices.

Your Choices and Privacy Rights

You can:

• Enable or disable optional analytics in Obento.

• Manage Obento’s iCloud access through device settings.

• Choose whether to create or join a household.

• Leave a household or stop sharing one you own.

• Choose whether to import links, select photos or grant camera access.

• Delete supported content inside the app.

• Manage your iCloud storage and backups.

• Manage or cancel subscriptions through Apple.

• Contact support about information you have provided directly.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of personal information, restrict or object to certain processing, or withdraw consent. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

Requests to the developer can be sent to the address below. The developer cannot directly access or retrieve your private iCloud library or identify individual anonymised analytics events. Information held independently by Apple may need to be managed through Apple’s privacy tools.

Children’s Privacy

Obento does not knowingly collect personal information from children through its analytics or support services. If you believe a child has provided personal information directly to the developer, contact support so the matter can be addressed.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated as Obento changes. The “Last updated” date will be revised when an updated policy is published.
