This Privacy Policy describes how OBD Companion handles information when you use the application.
OBD Companion is designed to perform vehicle diagnostics locally on your device. We aim to minimize data collection and avoid storing personal information on external servers whenever possible.
OBD Companion may access and process information obtained from your vehicle through a compatible OBD-II adapter, including:
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), when available
OBD-II diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Vehicle sensor and live diagnostic data
Emissions readiness information
Vehicle protocol information
Diagnostic test results
Information manually entered by the user, such as vehicle name, make, model, registration number, mileage, fuel type, and notes
This information is used only to provide the diagnostic functions of the app.
Vehicle profiles, diagnostic history, application settings and generated diagnostic information are stored locally on your device.
OBD Companion does not require an account and does not upload your vehicle diagnostic history to our own servers.
You can remove locally stored information by deleting records within the app where available or by clearing the app's data/uninstalling the application.
OBD Companion uses Bluetooth functionality to discover and communicate with compatible OBD-II adapters.
Depending on your Android version, the operating system may require permissions related to Bluetooth scanning or nearby devices.
These permissions are used only to locate and communicate with OBD-II diagnostic adapters.
OBD Companion does not use Bluetooth scanning to track your location.
OBD Companion does not collect or store your physical location.
Some Android versions may associate Bluetooth-related permissions with location-related system requirements. If such permission is requested by the operating system, it is used only as required for Bluetooth device discovery and communication.
OBD Companion may offer optional Premium functionality as a one-time in-app purchase.
Purchases are processed by Google Play.
We do not receive or store your payment card information.
Google may process purchase-related information in accordance with its own privacy policies and terms.
OBD Companion may locally store the status of your Premium entitlement in order to provide access to purchased features.
OBD Companion includes a Demo Mode that generates simulated vehicle and diagnostic data.
Demo Mode does not require connection to a real vehicle and does not collect real vehicle information.
The app may generate PDF diagnostic reports based on vehicle and diagnostic information available within the app.
Reports are generated locally on your device.
OBD Companion does not automatically upload these reports to external servers.
If you choose to share or export a report using Android's sharing functions, the destination and handling of that file are controlled by the service or application you select.
OBD Companion does not sell personal information.
We do not operate a backend service for collecting vehicle diagnostic history or user profiles.
Information may only be processed by third-party platform services when necessary to provide specific functionality, such as Google Play processing an in-app purchase.
Any information you manually export or share from the app is shared only at your direction.
Because diagnostic records and vehicle profiles are stored locally on your device, their protection depends in part on the security of your Android device.
OBD Companion uses standard Android platform mechanisms for local application storage and communication with supported Bluetooth devices.
We do not intentionally transmit locally stored diagnostic history to our own external servers.
Data stored by OBD Companion remains on your device until:
you delete the relevant information within the app;
you clear the application's storage; or
you uninstall the application.
Because OBD Companion does not require a user account and does not maintain a remote user database, there is no separate online account deletion process.
Google Play purchase records are managed independently by Google according to Google's own retention policies.
OBD Companion is a vehicle diagnostic utility and is not designed or directed specifically toward children.
The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
OBD Companion may rely on services provided by:
Google Play
Used for application distribution, updates and optional in-app purchases.
These third-party services may process information independently according to their own privacy policies.
This Privacy Policy may be updated if OBD Companion's features or data-handling practices change.
Any updated version will be published on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
