Iowa law requires that the political parties hold caucuses on January 15, 2024. Our Iowa Democratic Caucuses now consist of two parts:
One part will be the mail-in expression of Presidential preference. Iowa Democrats will be able to request a presidential preference card through the mail or online. The last day to request a preference card is February 19, 2024. More information is below.
The other part was our in-person precinct caucuses held in person on January 15, 2024. The in-person precinct caucuses are when we conduct traditional party business. We elect unbound delegates and alternate delegates to county conventions, elect county central committee members, and discuss platform resolutions that can be shared at county conventions. No Presidential preference was taken at the in-person precinct caucuses. The results of the mail-in Presidential preference will be released on March 5, 2024.
O’Brien County Democrats met to caucus in-person with all 9 precincts meeting together at 7:00 PM on Monday, January 15, 2024 in the O’Brien County Courthouse Assembly Room., 155 S Hayes Ave, Primghar, IA 51245. You must be in-line or signed-in by 7:00pm to participate.
At the caucus county business included selecting County officeholders, District delegates, and State delegates. Delegates were selected to fill positions as described in the Iowa Democratic Party Bylaws.
Only registered Iowa Democrats who are eligible to vote in the November 5, 2024 election could participate in a Caucus. Iowans must be registered as a Democrat by February 19, 2024 to submit a presidential preference card.
The Iowa primary election for county, state, and federal offices will be held June 4. The voter pre-registration deadline for voting in the primary is Monday, May 20.
Check your voter registration status here. Please note that your election voting location and your caucus location are not necessarily the same. Register to vote or update your voter registration information here.

Since the Biden/Harris Inauguration on January 20, 2021, President Biden and Democrats have delivered for working people. Here are just a few examples of the historic firsts from the Biden-Harris administration’s first year in office:
Jobs: President Biden’s first year was the greatest year of job creation in American history, with more than 6 million jobs created.
Unemployment Rate: The unemployment rate dropped from 6.2% when Biden took office to 3.9%, the biggest single year drop in American history.
Unemployment Claims: The average number of Americans filing for unemployment has been near its lowest level since 1969. When the President took office, over 18 million were receiving unemployment benefits, today only 2 million are—also the biggest single year drop in history.
Economic Legislation Passed: Most significant by economic impact of any first-year president.
Child Poverty: Experts estimate the U.S. had the lowest child poverty rate ever in 2021.
Expanded Access to Health Care: Nearly 5 million Americans have newly gained health insurance coverage.
Reduced Hunger: The number of households reporting that they sometimes or often did not have enough dropped by 32%.
Judges Confirmed: More judges confirmed to lower federal courts than any president since President Kennedy.
Judges That Reflect Our Nation: More Black women appointed to the US Court of Appeals than any president -- even over 8 years-- in history.
Cabinet: first majority non-white Cabinet in history, with most women in the Cabinet, including first woman Treasury Secretary, first LGBTQ+ and Native American Cabinet officials, and first woman Director of National Intelligence.
Climate Investments: Largest investments ever in the power grid, electric vehicle chargers, and climate resilience.
Clean Water: Largest investment and national, bipartisan plan to get safe and clean drinking water to all Americans.
Cleaner Cars: Strongest vehicle emissions standards ever to save drivers money at the pump and reduce pollution.
Wind: First-ever approvals of large-scale offshore wind projects.
Personnel: Most diverse Administration in history – most women, people of color, disability, LGBTQ+, first generation American, and first-generation college graduates.
While recognizing that there is much work to be done, we value the progress and hope for a time of working together and honoring our wonderfully messy experiment.
