Teaching and learning remotely is synchronous, which means all learning activities will be taking place with the teacher and student online in Google Meet. Your student, depending on age, simply needs an adult to supervise him or her and provide assistance as needed. Your student's teacher will be live, in the Google Meet Classroom during the entire class period. If you need assistance, feel free to communicate with your child's teacher.
Most students will be able to do any independent activities during the class time without adult help. Of course there are always some exceptions. Parents and students should ask the teacher for help as needed.
Learning remotely is challenging. It is not ideal nor is it how any of us want our students to attend school. Many things can go wrong, but rest assured, the OASD Teachers and Administrators are dedicated to doing our best to design relevant, engaging learning experiences that follow the OASD board approved curriculum. We will continue to evaluate our remote learning plan and make changes as necessary until we are able to return to school in person.
ASK FOR HELP if you need it. We are here for you and for your student(s) to support you however we can during this challenging time.
Open the Google Meet link that was provided to you in the email from your building principal OR log into the Seesaw app on your iPad and look for the information in your homeroom teacher's classroom. Here you will connect to your teacher's Google Meet.
Log into your Chromebook using your Octorara student account and password (it ends in student.octorara.org). Open the "waffle" (the square with the dots) in the upper right hand corner. Click on the google classroom icon. There you will see all of your classes--go to your homeroom and enter the Google Meet.
Log into your Schoology account using your Octorara student account and password (it ends in student.octorara.org). Select "courses" and open your first period class. Look for the Google Meet link in the Class Information folder and select it to enter your first period teacher's Google Meet.
Even though students are attending school from home, we still must take attendance and comply with compulsory education laws in PA. Please make sure your student logs into the Google Meet for his/her first class on time each day, and engages and participates throughout the day. K-6 teachers will take daily attendance and 7-12 teachers will take period attendance. If your student is marked absent, it will still generate an automated phone call home. If your student is sick and unable to attend school online, then you must email an excuse note to the building secretary. You can use the links below. Truancy citations can be given for students who have too many unexcused absences.
Teachers will NOT be giving homework during remote learning. Students are only encouraged to read independently as much as possible. There will be no reading logs to complete, and students should not be assigned independent projects during this time. There may be some exceptions for Honors, AP and Dual Enrollment courses.
Teachers will be providing breaks for students, but if your student needs a break, or needs to use the bathroom, please know that is perfectly ok. Just let the teacher know.
