We are looking for outgoing, enthusiastic and energetic students who want to work hard and help lead the game day crowd in cheering for our EAGLES. No cheer experience required to try out for Sideline Cheer - just a big smile, loud voice, positive attitude, and a willingness to work hard and learn! Tryouts are open to all students in all grades.
2022-23 TRYOUT INFORMATION PACKET
This document outlines our 2022-23 program structure, coaching philosophy, team member expectations and commitment, as well as what we will be looking for during tryouts from our team members for the new year. SIDELINE CHEER IS A YEAR-ROUND COMMITMENT - please be sure to read all the information so you and your parents/guardians have a full understanding of our team expectations. Forms required for tryouts are referenced in this packet and most will be available to complete and submit online. ALL CANDIDATES will need a digital copy of this packet to participate in and complete the tryout process. Please read through the entire document so you don't miss anything!
2022-23 TRYOUT APPLICATION
This year, candidate applications will be submitted online. Tryout applications are DUE BY 5:00pm, Monday May 9, 2022, but it is recommended you get it in MUCH sooner so your teachers have ample time to submit their recommendations (which are due by May 11). If you miss the application deadline, please contact the coaches.
2022-23 TRYOUT MATERIALS
Tryout material will be taught IN-PERSON during our mandatory tryout workshops on Wednesday, May 11 and Thursday, May 12 held outside on the Great Lawn at the front of the school. Candidates who have submitted the Tryout Application by the due date AND all required documents outlined in the Tryout Information Packet will also receive a link to the tryout materials that can be viewed outside of workshop times. Candidates will have two days to learn the material and prepare for the in-person tryout. Tryout guidelines and instructions will be included with the Tryout Materials.
Tryouts will be held on FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2022 @ 6:00PM. Athletes will have a chance to perform the material learned in front of a panel of judges with a partner or small group. Location of tryouts TBD.
The 2022-23 OPHS Sideline Cheer Tryout Results will be posted to this website by end of day on Sunday, May 15, 2022. The tryout results form the preliminary team roster. The Roster is considered preliminary because final rosters are not determined until after athletes have signed the cheer team constitution, athletes and parents have attended the parent meeting and uniform fitting, and summer conditioning has concluded.
2022-23 MANDATORY UNIFORM FITTING AND PARENT MEETING
New team members and parents will be required to attend a MANDATORY IN-PERSON UNIFORM FITTING on Monday May 16, 2022 at 4:00pm (JV) and 4:30pm (Varsity). At this meeting, athletes will take personal measurements and try on items for our 2022-23 uniform and training apparel order which must be completed before the summer.
There will be a parent meeting held on either Wednesday, May 11 after day one of tryout workshops at 6:00pm OR Monday May 16 at 5:00pm after the uniform fitting. Final date will be communicated soon. Students are not required to attend this meeting, but are encouraged to join if they are able.
CIF OFFICIAL DEAD PERIOD
PLEASE SCHEDULE ALL SUMMER VACATIONS DURING THESE DATES ONLY: July 4th - July 17th, 2022
Summer conditioning is crucial for our Fall season. Attendance is expected at all practices, but there will be no commitment of any kind to our program during the dead period. Policy on absences will be further explained at the parent meeting once the team is formed.

Times: 1:15pm – 3:15pm, 30 minutes lunch break, and 3:45pm – 6:45pm

CHEER CAMP- Thursday July 28 - 31
Cheer camp is MANDATORY. If you cannot attend the camp, you will be cut from the team. After a couple years of COVID restrictions, overnight-away-camps are finally approved! We will be traveling this year to UCSB. Athletes will need to get dropped off and picked up at the beginning and end of the camp dates. If transportation is an issue, we will be renting the school Suburbans for coaches to transport any athletes who may need it. Carpooling is highly recommended.
Regularly scheduled Cheer Practices begin in August for Football season.
