Our purpose is to help Oakmont Residents with a Parkinson's diagnosis improve their quaility of life through exercise. PIng Pong specifically accomplishes this goal. It's benfits center around the concept of neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to form new neurons and connections through consistent physical exercise. Medication remains at the forefront of treatment for Parkinson’s, but there’s compelling evidence that playing ping pong may actually be just as effective in halting the progression of the disease. The uniqueness of ping pong as a therapeutic treatment lies in the sport’s focus on balance, hand-eye coordination, and rhythm of reciprocal play that trains both the physical and cognitive aspects of the brain. We play for fun, therapy and community.
Our club consists not only members with a Parkinson's Diagnosis but also family, friends and supporters who join the fun by playing, coaching and chasing balls. We all have a blast. In a short time we feel a real sense of community. Many memebers already have noticed their symptoms improving. Everyone has improved their Ping Pong skills with our goal being nice, long volleys. Our key partners and friends are memebers of the Oakmont Table Tennis Club who join us for coaching and play.
