Born and raised in Napier, dance and music was introduced into my world at the age of 6 along with my sister Anne.Â
As well as Highland Dancing, I was fortunate to also learn, compete and do examinations in Modern Dance, Tap Dancing, Piano, Singing and Speech.
I gained my Highland Dancing Advanced Diploma with Honours in all grades under the tutelage of Adele Swanson who instilled in me a passion for the traditions of our art form, which over the years I have been able to pass on to my own pupils.
I was involved for many years in Pipe Bands playing both Tenor drum and then Snare drum and was the Leading Side / Drum Sergeant for City of Sails Pipes Band.
I have been playing the piano for dancing exams for almost 40 years.
I am currently the President of the Auckland Centre of the Piping and Dancing Association of NZ, and an active member of the Auckland National Dancing Teachers and Judges Association.
I am currently an elected North Island representative on the Executive Committee of the New Zealand Academy of Highland and National Dancing and one of the Liaison Officers representing the Piping and Dancing Association of NZ.
At present I am the National Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager for The Farmers Trading Company Ltd, providing support with my team to all our Stores Nationwide, the National Distribution Centre, and support the wider James Pascoes Group also.
I wish all competitors every success as you strive to perform to the best of your ability, but above all have fun and enjoy the friendships you will make over the weekend, as these will last a lifetime.
