Ben Ware, Ph.D., Dean of the Graduate School, Syracuse University
Professor Ben Ware served on the faculty of chemistry at Harvard before coming to Syracuse in 1979 as Department Chair. He was named the Kenan Professor of Science in 1984. He became Vice President for Research in 1989 and served both in that position and as the Chief Information Officer of Syracuse University for twelve years beginning in 1991. He became the Dean of the Graduate School in 2006.
In the past Prof. Ware has taught the Honors course in chemistry and an Honors seminar on the organization and administration of universities. He currently teaches an Honors course entitled “Origins Discovered and Denied,” which is an exploration of the scientific explanations of the origins of the universe, the earth, and life on earth, and an examination of the social and political controversies that exist as many people, especially in the United States, reject these scientific explanations. The course emphasizes the development of skills for the examination of issues with multidisciplinary dimensions and the development of responsible dialogue among individuals and groups with conflicting views on important issues.
