This is a comprehensive guide for Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) navigating the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization process. Whether you are a local graduate or foreign-trained, this roadmap ensures you don't hit any avoidable roadblocks.
The transition from being a student to a "Copper" (as Nigerians fondly call it) is a journey of documentation, patience, and excitement. Mobilization is the formal process of vetting graduates to ensure they are eligible for the one-year mandatory service.
To ensure a hitch-free experience, follow these updated steps for the 2026 service year.
Before NYSC even knows you exist, your school must certify you. Complete your department, faculty, library, and bursary clearances. If you owe a single library book or a late fee, your name might not make the first list.
While your certificate might take years to be issued, your Statement of Result is your "golden ticket."
Update: Ensure the date of graduation on your result matches the date on the school’s Senate list. Any discrepancy will lead to being sent home from the orientation camp.
Most institutions require you to sign a "Mobilization Form" at the Directorate of Student Affairs. This is where you provide your basic details (Name, JAMB Reg Number, Date of Birth) that the school will use to upload your name to the NYSC portal.
This is a non-negotiable step. If your name isn't on the JAMB Matriculation List, the NYSC portal will block you from registering.
What to do: If you aren't on the list, you may need to apply for Regularization or print your JAMB Admission Letter.
Once your school finishes its internal processing, they upload the names to the NYSC portal.
How to check: Visit the NYSC Senate List Portal.
Wait for it: If your name isn't there yet, don't panic. Schools upload in batches. Keep in touch with your school’s Student Affairs Officer.
6. Nerd Enrollment
If you are a graduate preparing for the 2026 NYSC service year, the "NERD" enrollment is likely the most significant new hurdle you’ll face. Standing for the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank, NERD is a mandatory digital clearinghouse recently introduced by the Federal Government to verify academic records and eliminate certificate racketeering.
Under the new "No NERD, No NYSC" policy, you cannot complete your mobilization without this clearance.
The NERD system is a centralized national database designed to store, verify, and authenticate the academic outputs of every Nigerian graduate. For NYSC, it acts as a pre-mobilization filter.
Instead of just trusting a paper Statement of Result, the NYSC now cross-references your details with the NERD database to ensure:
Your project or thesis is authentic and logged.
Your institution has digitally confirmed your graduation.
Your record is assigned a unique National Credential Number (NCN).

CRITICAL UPDATE: You cannot register for NYSC without your NIN. Ensure the name on your NIN matches the name on your school documents. Discrepancies in date of birth on NIN are the most common cause of registration delays.
When the portal opens (usually announced on NYSC social media handles), visit the official site.
Biometrics: You must use a thumbprint scanner to capture your fingerprints. No one can do this for you by proxy.
The N3,000 Fee: You will be required to pay a fee (roughly ₦3,000 + charges = 6,000 to 10,000).
Foreign-Trained Graduates: You must upload your original certificates and travel passport (showing your entry/exit stamps). You will also undergo physical verification of these documents at designated centers.
Married Women: To be posted to your husband's state of residence, you must upload your Marriage Certificate, Newspaper Change of Name, and husband’s proof of residence during online registration.
After registration, you will print your Green Card. It’s not actually a card; it’s a colored slip showing your personal details, choice of states, and your unique Call-up Number. Keep this safe.
Usually, 3–7 days after registration ends, deployment is released. This letter tells you:
Which State you have been posted to.
The address of the Orientation Camp.
The date you must report.
When heading to camp, your documents are more important than your clothes. If these are missing, you will not be registered.
