Volt14 is a venture capital backed startup with an engineering led team possessing deep expertise in advanced materials and battery development.
Role Overview
We are seeking a self-directed Engineering Technician to support hands-on experimental, manufacturing, and research activities across our pilot facility. This position is fluid—as our technology scales, your responsibilities will evolve, offering a direct pathway into advanced process engineering or technical line leadership.
What we offer in return:
Direct mentorship from technical experts, rapid technical upskilling, and possibility of meaningful equity exposure through share option grants.
Cultural Expectations
We look for individuals driven by a first-principles mindset, deep scientific curiosity, and accountability. You must take ownership of your tasks and data integrity, operating with the thoroughness required for rapid, cutting-edge hardware iteration.
Key Responsibilities
Anode Pilot Line (EL1) Operation: Operate and maintain machinery on the EL1 anode electrode pilot line. Identify efficiency bottlenecks to scale daily production output and maximize equipment utilization.
Battery Cell Prototyping & Production: Execute jelly roll winding and subsequent cell assembly processes as a core component of prototyping activities and production scaling. Undertake all tasks related to coin cell assembly, including electrode handling and cell assembly. This role might involve significant periods of glovebox operations.
Process Documentation: Document new equipment setups and write parameterized Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) to safely transition core capabilities in-house.
Maintenance & Rigor: Execute scheduled Preventive Maintenance (PM) on the pilot line with zero lapses and maintain precise registries for all experimental cell builds.
Incoming Quality Control (IQC) & Cell Qualification: Execute strict physical, chemical and electrical inspections on vendor-manufactured materials and internally produced battery cells.
Electrochemical Testing: Run standard charge/discharge cycles using battery cyclers and electrochemical tests to identify cell failure mechanisms
Work Environment & Schedule
Hours: Standard daytime working hours (Monday to Friday); occasional flexibility required to support active cell build cycles.
Environment: Hands-on lab and pilot manufacturing setting. Strict adherence to safety protocols and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
Qualifications
Education/Experience: Technical degree, diploma, or equivalent practical industry experience in mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering, or physical sciences.
Hands On Experience: Experience in glove box operations is a big plus. Proven experience operating precision metrology tools (e.g., vernier calipers, digital balances) and battery electrical testing equipment (e.g., battery cyclers, testers).
Machinery Familiarity: Prior experience operating, troubleshooting, or maintaining web-handling, roll-to-roll coating, calendaring, or automated cell assembly/winding equipment is a significant advantage.
Methodological Rigor: Exceptional adherence to methodology, with a strong track record of following, drafting, and enforcing rigid SOPs and SWPs.
Language & Vendor Management: Proficiency in spoken and written Chinese is a strong asset, as this role requires close interaction, technical coordination, and vendor management with overseas equipment and material suppliers.
Communication Skills: Outstanding spoken and written communication skills to clearly articulate battery performance metrics and technical anomalies.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation will be commensurate with skills and experience.
Interested candidates are requested to email their CVs to contact@volt14.com. This role is open to only candidates with legal status to work in Singapore.
