What is NYOS PTA?
What is NYOS PTA? Who is it for? What do they do?
The NYOS PTA is an integral part of our NYOS Charter School community. The NYOS Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a non-profit (501(c)(3)) organization, independent of NYOS Charter School, that supports NYOS students preK-12 by providing resources, programs, and events that directly benefit our school and NYOS community. It is governed by an elected Executive Board and has an active General Membership body who not only vote on funding, but participate in planning and executing school events and programs. PTA is 100% volunteer-supported.
What does NYOS PTA do? Not only do we normally host fun events like Jag Fest (our version of a fall carnival), but we also fund other educational programs, equipment, and supplies that benefit all of our students. Take a look at just some of what NYOS PTA has accomplished over the past few years…
NYOS PTA operates under the guidance of both Texas PTA and National PTA. As the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the nation, National PTA is the conscience of the country for children and youth issues. Through advocacy, as well as family and community education, National PTA has established programs and called for legislation that improves our children’s lives, such as:
Creation of Kindergarten classes
Child labor laws
Public health service
Hot and healthy lunch programs
Juvenile justice system
Mandatory immunization
Arts in Education
School Safety
The purposes of NYOS Charter School PTA, in common with National PTA and Texas PTA, are:
A. to promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, and community;
B. to raise the standards of home life;
C. to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth;
D. to bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth;
E. to develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, and social education.
Texas PTA Mission: To make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
