INSTITUTE BACKGROUND
Nyohini Community Technical Institute is the new name of the Institute formerly known as Community Development Vocational and Technical Training Institute. The Institute was established in 1966 with the name Women’s Training Institute as a government institution belonging to the Department of Community Development under the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development (MLGDRD).
The sole aim and objective of the Institute was to provide young ladies with vocational skills to make them self reliant and supportive to their families. However, over time, the mandate of the Institute in face of global integration and changing educational reforms has been expanded to include technical training modules which have resulted in attracting youth particular young boys into the Institute.
Currently, the Institute has been absorbed by the Ghana TVET Service as its mandate to streamline all TVET institutions under one body to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in the sector.
Courses offered by the Institute are structured to prevent or decrease the high incidence of youth migration to urban cities in search of white-coloured jobs, through the provision of vocational and technical skills training.
