The New York Daiku Singers will participate in a special commemorative concert on Friday, September 11, 2026.
Performed with a full orchestra, the program will feature two masterpieces inspired by the poetry of Friedrich Schiller (1759–1805):
Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphony No. 9 ("Ode to Joy"), featuring An die Freude (Ode to Joy), Schiller's celebrated poem written in 1785.
Johannes Brahms – Nänie, a moving choral elegy composed in 1881, based on Schiller's poem written around 1799, reflecting on the beauty and transience of life and the power of remembrance.
This special performance offers an opportunity to reflect on themes of remembrance, freedom, hope, and our shared humanity through the enduring power of music. We look forward to presenting an evening of profound musical expression.
