Cultivating student agency involves shifting from a teacher-centered model to a student-centric approach that empowers students to take ownership of their learning. Key strategies include providing meaningful choices, promoting self-reflection, fostering a supportive environment, and using authentic learning experiences. This resource was created as part of the New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) Connected Arts Networks (CAN) and is designed for arts educators as a starting point for promoting student agency in their dance, music, theater, media arts, or visual arts classrooms.
