Grades 3-12 teachers and Sustainability Coordinators can learn standards-aligned, hands on activities about clean energy! Facilitated by Solar One, this professional learning opportunity is STEM-focused and interdisciplinary. Topics include: solar field study, wind turbines, carbon cycle, and energy storage. Registration is open now for November 2025 sessions!
Our office hosts annual trainings every Fall dedicated to preparing teachers and staff for Climate Action Days at their school.
Every year, there is a Mid-Winter Climate Institute and a Summer Climate Institute put on for teachers and staff looking to learn more about climate, sustainability, and how to meaningfully connect these themes to students.
The CELT is a group of passionate NYC public school educators and administrators working to advance climate education across subjects and grade levels. This team is eager to lead the way towards addressing the gap in formal climate education in NYC schools by creating classroom resources and training opportunities.
The Office of Energy & Sustainability’s Youth Leadership Council (YLC) empowers diverse high school students from NYC Public Schools to increase inclusive and impactful sustainability and climate action across schools and communities.
At our annual student event, high school students gain critical leadership and problem solving skills. Students become equipped with climate action knowledge, and develop networks to expand sustainability in their communities.
This program, facilitated by Solar One, integrates solar content into existing electrical and engineering courses at CTE High Schools. The goal is to prepare students for green workforce opportunities.
Every school is encouraged to start a student club to support sustainability! We have lots of ideas for engaging your Green Team.

As of 2024, all public school buildings receive curbside compost pickup, alongside recycling waste streams. Our office focuses heavily on waste support for school-wide engagement and facilities management.
Climate Action Days are four separate days throughout the school year that focus on the following themes for schools to celebrate in collective learning and action: Water; Waste; Energy; and Health, Wellness and Green Space.
