A community forestry partnership between
local volunteers and the Village of Nyack.
Since its inception in 2016, local volunteers and Village of Nyack staff have planted over 500 trees and cared for them, thanks to the dedication of the Nyack Tree Committee, support from the Village, and generous donors. Our mission is to expand, diversify, and protect the village forest.
In spring and fall each year, community volunteers and Village of Nyack staff organize events for volunteers to plant trees along village streets, in the parks, and on private property next to the public right of way. Approximately 25 trees are planted at each event. All year long, the Nyack Tree Committee oversees the maintenance of the young trees and plans for the new plantings for the following year.
Beyond tree planting and young tree care, the tree commitee advises the Village on all aspects of tree planting, protection, and maintenance.
The Village has been a Tree City USA since 2014, and is a member of the NYS Urban Forestry Council.
Nyack participates in New York's 25 Million Trees intiative.
Nyack's Tree Tenders adopt a block of trees to tend on their own schedule or simply agree to join a maintenance session whenever possible.
Maintenance includes weeding, muching and observing and reporting on other issues.

Please do not prune the trees in the public right of way.We encourage residents to look out for their trees by maintaing a weed free, mulched area at least 4 feet wide around the trunk. Mulch should be about 3" deep and kept away from the trunk, Watering during droughts will help the trees thrive. Please contact the Village Adminstrator if there are any concerns about the tree.
The Village of Nyack’s Free Front Yard Tree Program offers free trees to residents who have yards with appropriate space for healthy trees, and where there is a commitment to ongoing care.
