I love working with people.
From an early age, I spent time working with diverse people. It was not surprising when my close family and friends redirected me from one career path to becoming a clinical counsellor. They suggested that the work of a clinical counsellor is a better fit since I offer compassionate care by dignifying others, instilling hope, and being empathic and non-judgmental.
Dignifying responses are at the heart of
who I am
and the work
that I do.
I am a graduate of City University of Seattle. As a registered clinical counsellor (RCC) & a Canadian certified counsellor (CCC), I specialize in interpersonal violence that includes sexualized violence, racialized violence, workplace violence, and partner violence. I work with issues of grief and loss, and suicidality. Also, I support family members whose loved ones struggle with suicidal behaviours or who have lost loved ones to suicide.
With a trauma-informed lens, I provide immediate short-term support to women and trans survivors of sexualized violence. This work involves a holistic approach of safety, enhancement of coping skills, and working towards stabilization.
I worked as a private contractor at a Tribal School as a counsellor. In addition to listening to the students about academic, emotional, or social issues, I helped students with processing information and assisted them with planning goals and actions. My individual and group work focused on designing and teaching the students' social learning skills about their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. I provided trauma-informed, grief and loss counselling to the students and staff.
I have over fifteen years of experience working as a Counselling Support Worker. I practiced ethical decision-making and awareness, and demonstrated appreciation for diverse issues related to psychological trauma, interpersonal violence, suicidality, mental well-being issues, substance use, and poverty issues.
When I am not doing clinical work, I am researching, writing, publishing books, or enjoying nature with my husband Ryan, a Math & Physics tutor @ www.pmtutoringservices.ca and ryan947@gmail.com
I value honesty, integrity, and transparency.
I love to laugh because it speaks to my joy.
I am looking forward to working with you.
