Effective date: 22 October 2026
App: CalorieNest: AI Food Tracker (formerly NutriLens AI)
Privacy and support contact: contact@nextapps.tech
About this policy
This policy explains how CalorieNest: AI Food Tracker handles information when you use its nutrition diary, AI meal estimates, optional voice logging, meal planning, coaching, reminders and widgets. Some features require an active subscription and may not yet be available in every build. CalorieNest: AI Food Tracker provides estimates and general nutrition information, not medical diagnosis or treatment.
Information stored on your device
Your profile may include age, biological sex if supplied, height, weight, goals, activity level, measurement preferences and calorie targets. Meal records, portions, nutrition estimates, saved meals, weight entries, water logs, reminder preferences, optional daily energy check-ins, saved meal plans, grocery lists and dietary preferences are stored locally. Dietary preferences may include allergies you choose to enter. The app does not provide diary account sync or a restore service. Your operating system may make device backups according to your own backup settings.
Photo analysis and third-party AI
Selecting or taking a photo first creates a preview. When you choose Get nutrition, the compressed photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our Google Firebase backend and to OpenAI to identify foods and estimate portions and nutrition. You can use local manual logging or the explicitly labelled demo without sending a photo for AI analysis. App-owned temporary picker files are cleaned up after processing; the app does not intentionally add your photos to a server photo library or save a photo thumbnail with your diary. Our backend code does not persist the uploaded photo. It temporarily caches the resulting food/nutrition estimate to support retries.
Voice, coaching and planning
Voice logging uses your device's speech-recognition service after microphone and speech permissions are granted. Apple, Google or the device speech provider may process audio under its own terms. Our AI backend receives the editable text transcript, not microphone audio, when you request food estimates.
When an available coaching feature is used, your submitted question, recent session conversation and relevant current-day diary context (meal names, nutrition totals, targets and water) are sent through Firebase to OpenAI to generate a reply. Chat is not intentionally written into your persistent diary and can be cleared in the session.
When you request a meal plan, selected calorie goals and dietary, allergy, budget and food preferences are sent through Firebase to OpenAI. Generated plans and grocery lists can be saved locally. Do not enter information you do not want processed by these providers. AI estimates and allergy checks are not guarantees; review ingredients, labels and preparation yourself.
Service identifiers and security
Live AI requests use an anonymous Firebase identity, App Check attestation, request identifiers and usage counters to authenticate requests, prevent abuse, enforce access limits and manage service reliability. Hosting, authentication and attestation providers may process technical information such as IP addresses, device/app information, timestamps and error or security records. App code does not intentionally log photos, raw AI input or API credentials. An anonymous identifier is pseudonymous; it is not a promise of complete anonymity.
Subscriptions
On iPhone and iPad, Apple processes subscription purchases through StoreKit. Our Firebase backend verifies Apple-signed transactions and stores the app account identifier, transaction identifiers, product, purchase and expiration dates, refund/revocation status and subscription access status. These records support paid access, restores, renewals and usage limits across installations. Apple handles payment details; we do not receive your full payment-card information. Apple and subscription records have their own retention requirements. Restoring purchases does not restore a local food diary.
Reminders, widgets and permissions
Notifications are optional and start disabled. Schedules and preferences are handled on your device; disabling the master reminder switch cancels the app's pending reminders. Widgets provide shortcuts into the app. Camera, selected-photo, microphone, speech and notification permissions are requested for the features that need them and can be changed in system settings. The app does not currently read or write Apple Health or Health Connect records. This version does not include advertising or cross-app advertising tracking.
Retention and service providers
Local information remains until you remove relevant records, clear app storage or uninstall; device backup copies may remain under your backup settings. Delete meal history clears meals and saved favorites, not the complete profile, weight, water or wellness data. Export data produces a copy you control; protect that copy and anything you put on the clipboard.
Our backend gives completed AI-result caches an expiry of approximately one day and usage-counter records an expiry of up to approximately 30 days, depending on the feature. Expiry is not immediate physical deletion: automated cloud cleanup may be delayed. Failed/in-progress request records can expire earlier. Provider security, billing and operational records may be retained separately.
OpenAI requests use store=false. This does not mean zero retention: OpenAI may retain API content for abuse monitoring, generally up to 30 days unless an exception applies. We have not claimed a zero-data-retention agreement. Google/Firebase, OpenAI, platform speech services, app stores may process information outside your country. Their policies also apply.
Your choices and requests
You can use local diary features without AI uploads, avoid optional voice/coaching/planning, revoke permissions, turn off reminders, edit or delete individual meals, clear meal history and export local data. For privacy questions or requests to access, correct or delete relevant server/support records, email contact@nextapps.tech. We may need enough information to locate records and verify the request. We do not sell your diary, photos or transcripts or use them for targeted advertising. Disclosure may occur when needed to provide a requested service, comply with law or protect security and rights.
Adults and changes
The app is designed for adults aged 18 and over and is not directed to children. Contact us if you believe a child has supplied personal information. We may update this policy as features or practices change; the effective date above identifies the current version.
