Zhan Hu studied Hydraulic Engineering at Hohai University, China (2005-2009), and obtained his PhD from the department of Coastal Engineering at Delft University of Technology, NL, in 2015. His PhD was conducted in a joint research project between TU Delft and Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), titled “Towards sustainable coastal defence by salt marsh management: innovative extension and application of stare-of-the-art hydrodynamic model”. In this project, his role was to develop theoretical and numerical models to study intertidal bio-geomorphic processes that influence ecosystem stability and defence values. The outputs of this project are collected in my thesis “Tidal Flat Landscape Formation and Evolution”. In 2016, He was appointed as an associate professor in School of Marine Science, SYSU.
