Biography

Dr Linlin Li obtain her Bachelor degree in hydraulic engineering from Zhengzhou University in 2003, then she was recommended to Department of Hydraulic Engineering in Tsinghua University and got her PhD degree in 2009. Since 2009, she works as a research fellow and then senior research fellow in Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS). She currently works on research projects both in EOS and NUS.

Linlin’s PhD study evaluates how the Three Gorges Project (TGP) affects the flood situation in the middle reach of Yangtze River by developing a 1D and 2D coupled river-lake hydrodynamic model. She later studies the sediment transport process induced by tsunami waves and investigates the correlation between observed tsunami deposits and tsunami hydrodynamic characteristics.

Her current research focuses on coastal flooding-related hazard assessment, including storm surges, tsunamis, rising sea levels, and how these hazards evolve under changing climate. She develops innovative modeling approaches by integrating the physical mechanism of these flooding phenomena, e.g. the source mechanism of tsunami generation, the genesis of tropical cyclones, etc. Her most recent research investigates how climate changes affect coastal flooding hazard along the heavily populated coasts of South and East China Seas through interdisciplinary and multi-institutional collaboration.
