Ignacio Barranco

HR Wallingford

Biography

Dr Ignacio Barranco worked with Prof. Liu until December 2021 in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He graduated with a degree in Public Works Engineering, specialized in Hydraulics and Hydrology, from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in 2015 and with a PhD in Civil/Coastal Engineering from NUS in 2021.

Prior to finishing his undergraduate studies, Dr Barranco spent one year at HR Wallingford (Oxfordshire, U.K.) as visiting researcher, working on the design and experimentation of a Tsunami Simulator. Following his graduation he continued his work with the Tsunami Simulator as research assistant at the University College of London (UCL). During his PhD, Dr. Barranco studied the generation of tsunami-like bores in the laboratory and the produced surf and swash flows employing analytical, physical and numerical techniques.

Concurrently to his PhD studies, Dr Barranco was a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at NUS for the modules: Hydraulics, Water Resources Engineering and Engineering Principles and Practice. His main tasks were to carry out in-class and laboratory tutorials, consultation and grading.

Dr Barranco current work focuses on the analysis of turbulence distribution and turbulence structures produced by bores in the surf and swash regions.
