Biography

Dr Alex Gaïtanellis obtained a Process Engineering degree in 2013 at the University of Technology of Compiègne. He then obtained a MSc in Fluid Mechanics at the University Paris XI in 2014 and a PhD in Fluid Mechanics at the University Paris-Est in 2017.

Alex’s PhD study concerned the modelling of bed-load sediment transport through a granular approach using the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method (a Lagrangian computational fluid dynamics method). He studied the modelling of granular material mechanical behaviour in the frame of highly dynamic multi-phase flows.

Alex currently works as a Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore, where he improves and implements the model he developed during his PhD in the industrial SPH code GPUSPH.
