CHINATOWN’S IMMERSIVE CULTURAL HERITAGE GALLERY
IMMERSIVE EXHIBITION TO INSTIL APPRECIATION OF CHINATOWN, KUALA LUMPUR.
Chinatown is not only a popular tourist destination, but it also has historical and heritage significance that contribute to Kuala Lumpur's uniqueness. This includes Petaling Street as one of the most well-known historic streets in Chinatown and the whole Malaysia, where it famed for its street hawking activities and traditional food hawkers. However, due to urbanisation, the historic urban neighbourhoods in Chinatown have deteriorated, and modernism has taken over the identity of the city's historical image. Rapid urbanisation is viewed as a key aspect in chasing all other countries around the world to be competent in creating a country, as we can observe in current modern period. Many people had forgotten how crucial it is to preserve a city's heritage values that have developed over time. This priceless resource must be preserved in order for future generations to be able to trace their ancestry and avoid losing the identity of our origins and roots.
IMMERSIVE EXHIBITION
Therefore, to ensure museum or gallery visits more appealing and enjoyable to a larger audience especially the youth, immersive exhibition is incorporated to create a more diverse audience’s engagement. This immersive experience will unfold the past stories of Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur as the visitors follow the museum's curated journey. In hope, this effort helps to instil heritage appreciation among the youth audience.
