2. Ramli, N. S. (2019). Review of Immigrant Entrepreneurship in the Southern European Countries and Its Impact on Economic Growth. Selected Issues on Current International Economics and Macroeconomics, 185.

Abstract: This chapter refers to immigrant entrepreneurs as one entity and not refer to a specific ethnicity. Therefore, the discussion of this phenomenon is on the general term of immigrant entrepreneurship residing in the area of study. The term immigrant entrepreneurs in this chapter refers to a group of immigrants doing business in a host country consisting of either the first generation – individuals who migrated from one country to another country, or a particular location in another country – the second generation – those born in the host country with immigrant parents – or the third generation – those with immigrant grandparents. In addition, the Southern European countries include Italy, Spain, Greece and Portugal. The significant reason for focusing on this geographical area is that it has been experiencing massive migration processes between the 1990s and the present, which are different from Western and Northern European countries and America in recent years. Immigrants move to the Southern European countries due to easy access through sea and land from Northern Africa, and Asia despite strict border policies. Most of these immigrants migrated to Europe for socio-economic reasons, other than to escape poverty and wars. However, migrating and surviving in a new host country is not easy for the immigrants. They are from various backgrounds such as highly educated, less educated, skilful, less skilful, older and younger. As a result, few opted for entrepreneurship, some found jobs according to their expertise, skills and experiences, and many ended up in the cheap labour market in these countries. This chapter focuses on those immigrants who opted for entrepreneurship in the host countries.
