The first NPE Café was in 2022 and the Community that it has evolved into is intended to continuously explore the power of deep democratic activities as a living project. As different participants join, different projects emerge empowering a canvas for innovation and shared problem identification and problem solving. The Café is not about societal issues but about creating a supportive structure to prepare nurses to address them, and act as effective full partners with physicians, other disciplines, and stakeholders to reform and restructure healthcare. Because the Café is not funded nor affiliated with any organization, we are free to build this supportive structure as an emerging, pertinent, and relevant mechanism to support the necessary growth of nurses' knowledge, skills, abilities, and confidence to be effective change agents for healthcare reform.
Core Values
1. Focus on what will prepare the nurse policy entrepreneur, rather than specific issues
2. Offer a safe place for productive dialogue
3. Never stop exploring different ways to support the NPE
4. Openness and transparency that welcomes input from all nurses
Internal: The NPEC seeks to be the go-to compendium and location for all nurses interested in becoming effective policy entrepreneurs by learning from one another through professional dialogue. External: The NPEC envisions that nurses will be inspired to become thought leaders and full partners with other disciplines to reform and improve the quality of healthcare policies locally, statewide, nationally, and globally.
Mission
The NPEC offers a safe and productive environment for nurses at all levels to develop into effective thought leaders and full partners with other disciplines to reform and restructure healthcare policy.
Purpose
The NPEC supports a diversity of all nurses, regardless of education, experience, or practice setting, to express their desire to advocate for others through policy-making and implementation.
