The Neighbors United Resource Center (NURC) Food Shelf in Granite Falls is an emergency food shelf. Providing around-the-clock services for people in need, NURC was started in a church basement back in the 1980’s in response to the Farm Crisis. Our founder was the legendary Farm Advocate, Lou Anne Kling, who spent her entire life working tirelessly to keep family farmers on their land.
As need and awareness spread, the food shelf moved to a small shop downtown and then to the basement of the old Yellow Medicine County Courthouse. Our final move was to our current building in which we rented for a few years before an anonymous donor purchased the building on our behalf in 2018. This increase in capacity has allowed us to serve thousands of individuals.
