Reinterpretation of Wayang Kulit :
A Curation of Light and Shadow
Natural illuminance, also known as daylighting, is a crucial passive design strategy that has a substantial impact on building performance, energy efficiency, productivity, and occupant well-being. The curating of daylighting via a building façade is very important in tropical climate countries like Malaysia. Wayang Kulit, or shadow puppetry, is distinguished not only by the distinct shape of the hand-carved puppet, but also by the intangible aspects that comprise a complete performance - the movement and shadows, the music, and the social gathering that is a wayang show. Modern wayang kulit also incorporates a feeling of self-reference, in which the audience is acknowledged and encouraged to see the play in new ways, reducing the element of passive observing.
