Mar 2023 - In the scope of our research project LactoCan, we have recently shown that acetate is an inducer of the anti-Candida effect prompted by the poorly studied species Lactobacillus gasseri against pathogenic yeasts of the Candida genus. Acetate is an endogenous metabolite present in the microbiomes where lactobacilii and Candida thrive in human infection sites for which these results can help boost the development of probiotics as new antifungal treatments. Congrats to Nuno Pedro, the PhD student that undertook the vast majority of the work herein described (check out)
