Key Ideas to Rounding Decimals:
Examples of Rounding Decimals:
4.6 → 5.0 or 5 (they are the same number)
Notice that we round up to 5.0 because the number 6 is greater than 5
7.2 → 7.0 or 7 (again, they are the same number)
Notice that we leave it at 7.0 because the number 2 is less than 5
Examples of Estimating Products using Rounding
<---- You will notice in the second example that we rounded 39.3 to 40 instead of keeping it at 39. This is because 40 is an easier number to multiply by 7 than 39. So we end up making the problem 40 x 7, rather than 39 x 7 for the sake of making the problem easier.
Fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation. (6.NS.B.3) (DOK 1)
