Overview
INNOVATION IN THE CITY: A LAND GRANT UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE
The National Urban Extension Conference is the only national gathering of Extension professionals who serve our cities. The 2019 conference, “Innovation in the City: A Land Grant University Experience”, will highlight strong urban programming and Extension’s opportunity to support the university-level mission of our land-grant universities in our metropolitan regions. With urban focused sessions, mobile tours, networking opportunities, social events, and exhibits the conference aims to both educate and inspire.
The 2019 conference will focus on four core themes:
Competency
The conference kicks off on Tuesday with breakout sessions that explore the knowledge, skills, and abilities that urban Extension professionals need to be successful.
Expertise
Sessions will focus on subject-based programs and applied research with sessions about current urban Extension programming across the country, and urban-based applied research being conducted by university and community based researchers.
Experience
Attendees will take advantage of the conference’s downtown Seattle location with a series of Wednesday afternoon field-trips that highlight this extraordinary city while focusing on issues relevant to Extension and land-grant universities. Following the field trips attendees will enjoy a unique community-based dinner.
Innovation
Having gained core competencies, augmented your subject-matter expertise, and experienced the urban environment, the conference will close with innovation breakout sessions. These sessions will focus on topics proposed by attendees before the conference as well as topics inspired during the conference.
Leading Edge Dialogues
In addition to breakout sessions, a series of Leading Edge Dialogues will run throughout the conference. These 90-minute sessions are designed to engage Extension leaders in exciting discussions around some of the most important issues facing our universities and our cities. Leading Edge Dialogues will bring together Extension, university departments, governmental agencies, potential funders and more to explore opportunities, solutions and new areas of partnership. Leading Edge Dialogues will replace the traditional ‘administrative track’ of past conferences.
