Membrane proteins account for 30% of sequenced genome and 50% of manufactured drugs are designed based on those proteins. In spite of the crucial roles of cell physiology and signal transduction many transporting mechanisms and conformational details remain uncertain. My research interests focus on structural biology and function characterisation of the integral membrane proteins. We are currently working on the structures of novel ion channels and transporters in bacteria using cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography. Biophysical techniques will be also employed to characterize the function and dynamics of the integral membrane proteins.
