November 2025: Javier Menéndez Sánchez has been appointed Corresponding Academician of the Spanish Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences. Javier completed his PhD at the Autonomous University of Madrid under the supervision of Alfredo Poves, and he is currently a Professor Agregat in the Department of Quantum Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Barcelona. He is an expert in theoretical nuclear physics, its connections with fundamental symmetries and physics beyond the Standard Model, as well as in the emerging application of quantum computing to the study of nuclear structure. He is the author of more than 85 articles and has consistently appeared in recent years in the top 2% ranking of most cited authors in the field. Congratulations, Javier!

October 2025: Rémi N. Bernard (CEA, IRESNE) will visit our group from Monday, October 27th to Friday, October 31st, to discuss recent developments in the microscopic description of the fission process. He will deliver a seminar on Thursday, October 30th.

October 2025: Colloquium! On October 15th, Alfredo Poves will give a topical seminar at the Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC) in Valencia titled "The calcium isotopes: nuclear physics in a seashell".

August 2025: New grant awarded! The NT@UAM has been awarded a Proyecto de Conocimiento grant for the period September 2025 – August 2028. This project forms part of the coordinated initiative “NUclear STructure for Reactions and AstroPhysics (NUSTRAP)”, carried out in collaboration with the Nuclear Physics Group at the Universidad de Sevilla.

July 2025: New paper published! The beyond-mean-field study of quadrupole-hexadecapole coupling on rare-earth nuclei has been published in EPJA. 

June 2025: From June 19 to 20, Nicolas F. Schunck from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory will visit our group to discuss advancements in fission. As part of his visit, he will give a talk on "Theory of Nuclear Fission" on June 19 at CSIC.

October 2024: Luis Robledo, Alfredo Poves, and Luis Egido have been recognized in Stanford University's "World’s Top 2% Scientists" list, which highlights the most influential researchers across various scientific fields. They join a prestigious group of 101 scholars from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
